The MIB3 is Audi's latest infotainment platform — faster, sharper, and fully touch-based. But like any navigation system, it needs regular map updates to stay accurate. This guide covers everything you need to update your Audi MIB3 navigation maps correctly.
Which Audi models have MIB3?
MIB3 was introduced from 2019 onwards across most Audi models:

If your version string contains MIB3 or your software starts with 0085 or higher — you have MIB3.

What's new in 2025/2026 MIB3 maps
The latest MIB3 map package for Europe includes:
- Updated road network across all 47 European countries
- New speed camera and speed limit data
- Updated points of interest (petrol stations, EV charging points, parking)
- Improved routing accuracy for new motorway sections
- Updated city centre data for major European cities
If your Audi is showing roads that don't exist, missing new roads, or incorrect speed limits — your maps are outdated.
How to check your current MIB3 map version
- Go to MMI → Navigation
- Press the settings icon → Map information
- Note the version string — it will look something like
MME_EU_NT_2024_Q4
If your version is older than 2024 Q3 — you need an update.
MIB3 map update — step by step (USB method)
What you need:
- USB-A drive (not USB-C), minimum 16GB, formatted to FAT32
- Correct MIB3 map file for your region from mapcoding.io/brands/audi
Steps:
- Download the
.navmap update file to your computer - Format your USB drive to FAT32 if not already
- Copy the map file to the USB root — do not put it inside any folder
- Start your Audi — engine running, not just ignition
- Plug USB into the USB-A port (the rectangular one, not USB-C)
- Go to MMI → Navigation → Map update → USB source
- MMI detects the file and shows the version — confirm to begin
- Update takes 30–60 minutes — keep the engine running throughout
- MMI restarts automatically when complete
Do not turn off the engine during the update. If the update is interrupted it may require a restart from step 1.
MIB3 OTA (over the air) update
Some MIB3 cars support OTA map updates via Audi connect. To check:
- Go to MMI → Navigation → Map update
- If it shows "Check for online updates" — OTA is available
- Connect to your home WiFi via the MMI hotspot function
- Download and install
OTA is free for cars within the Audi connect subscription period (usually 3 years from new). After expiry, OTA stops working and you need the USB method.
Common MIB3 map update questions
"MMI says my maps are up to date but they're clearly wrong" OTA checks against Audi's servers — if your Audi connect subscription expired, it may report "up to date" incorrectly. Use the USB method to force install the latest version.
"The USB is not being recognised by MMI" Check the USB is formatted as FAT32 (not exFAT or NTFS). Also make sure the file is in the USB root, not inside a folder. Use the USB-A port not USB-C.
"Can I update MIB3 maps myself or do I need a dealer?" Fully DIY. The USB method requires no dealer tools and takes about an hour. All files from MapCoding include a step-by-step guide.
"Will the update reset my MMI settings?" No. Your saved destinations, connected phones, radio presets, and MMI settings all stay intact after a map update.
"My Audi has both MIB3 and a separate rear seat entertainment screen — do I need separate maps?" No — the rear entertainment screen uses a mirrored display, not its own navigation system. One map update covers everything.
"What's the difference between MIB3 and MIB3+ ?" MIB3+ is the higher-spec variant with a larger screen and faster processor (found in Q7, Q8, A6, A7, A8). Both use the same map file format and update process.
"I have a German Audi — do I need German maps or European maps?" Always order the Full Europe package — it includes Germany plus all surrounding countries. Country-specific maps are not available for MIB3.
What about Apple CarPlay on MIB3?
