After helping a few people with navigation questions, I figured I'd write up a proper guide since it comes up constantly.
First — identify your MMI system

MIB2 update (SD card)
- Note current map version: MMI → Navigation → Map information
- Get the correct SD card file for your region from mapcoding.io/brands/audi
- Insert into the upper MMI slot (not the music slot)
- Update wizard launches automatically — takes ~45–90 min
- Keep the car running the whole time
MIB3 update (USB)
- Download the
.navfile for your region from mapcoding.io/brands/audi - Copy to USB root (FAT32, 16GB+)
- MMI → Navigation → Map update → USB source
- Confirm and wait — takes ~30–60 min
MH2P update (USB)
- Download the full update package (32GB+ USB, FAT32)
- Copy to USB root
- MMI → Navigation → Software update
- Confirm and wait — takes ~60–120 min
Common questions
"My MMI says no update available" Maps may already be current, or MMI isn't online. Use the USB method to bypass the OTA check entirely.
"Do I need the dealer?" No. The update process is fully DIY with the right files. All files from MapCoding include a step-by-step installation guide and email support.
"Will it reset my settings?" No. Saved routes, contacts, and settings stay intact.
"What about Apple CarPlay if my car doesn't have it?" On MIB3 cars it can be activated via software coding — no hardware change needed. Worth checking before paying dealer prices. See CarPlay activation →
